Mentor Training has won the contract to design, develop and implement
the mentoring and sustainability components of VAHEC's (Victorian
Association of Health & Extended Care) National Training Pilot Program.
The mentoring program will develop a model that will free the participating
aged care homes from being totally dependant upon outside organisations
e.g., registered training organisations for all their training needs
to being independent in managing the training for their workplace.
Aims & Objectives of the Mentoring Program
The Mentoring Program is intended to:
assist in developing a model for sustainability of training
delivery. Training will be provided to forty (40) selected workplace
supervisors who are non nursing staff from the participating residential
aged care facilities. These staff will act as 'Workplace Champions'
or 'Workplace Mentors'. These Workplace Mentors will be drawn
from the non nursing staff who work in a supervisory capacity
or as a 'senior' personal care assistant. The Nationally Recognised
Training will be delivered under VAHEC's Registered Training Organisation
status by appropriately qualified trainers and assessors who meet
the National Training Framework and the Australian Quality Training
Framework. Workplace Mentors will be responsible for delivering
mentoring services to staff within their respective workplaces
using the tools developed and by drawing on the guidance and assistance
of the 'External Mentor' provided by Mentor Training (Aust) Pty.
Ltd.

by an External Mentor (who will be based in Melbourne).

provide feedback and data about the mentorship over the 18 month
timeframe that will be used to assist VAHEC in developing a quality
control and continuous improvement strategy in accordance with
the AQTF. A structured evaluation methodology will be implemented
over the duration of the training.
