Aged Care
In the current work environment, there are different ways of working
and doing business, employers need their staff to provide more than
just technical know-how. There are other considerations that need
to be taken into account. Workers need to be able to handle knowledge
and manage their own learning. They also need to be adaptable to
the changing environment, be able to think creatively, use technology,
manage change and use personal qualities such as understanding,
empathy, a high level of communication skills and the ability to
work effectively with others.
Employers are looking at more than just training as the answer
to education and development needs for their staff, and mentoring
is an effective way to achieve this. Mentoring offers support, advice
and guidance from a recognised expert beyond the training room.
Through regular communication, mentors share their knowledge and
experience and provide guidance to their mentees, as well as being
a source of focus and motivation.
National Training Pilot Project
On behalf of the Victorian
Association of Health and Extended Care (VAHEC), Mentor Training
has been contracted to provide a mentoring service to various aged
care facilities within Victoria.
The objective for this mentoring program is to ensure the training
learned in the classroom (Certificate IV in Aged Care) is transferred
into practice in the workplace and is consistently applied. This
is called 'sustainability'. The program will generate continuous
improvement activities and information sharing which will create
benefits throughout the organisation.
